The next TF HTAP meeting will take place 6-8 June and will be hosted by the JRC in Ispra, Italy. Registration, travel, and lodging information will be provided soon.

The focus of the meeting will be to develop a multi-year work plan to address the TF HTAP's revised mandate (see http://www.unece.org/env/documents/2010/eb/eb/ece.eb.air.106.add.1.pdf ). As part of the process of developing this work plan, we hope to formulate and prioritize a new set of guiding policy-relevant questions; take stock of other related, on-going scientific activities; and identify cooperative activities through which the TF HTAP can add value.

HTAP 2010 Report Presentation to LRTAP Executive Body

HTAP 2010 is being presented to the LRTAP Executive Body at its meeting 13-17 December 2010 in Geneva.  The report and the accompanying summaries and notes being presented at this meeting are available on the HTAP wiki at http://htap.icg.fz-juelich.de/data/EBMeeting2010. Final editing and formatting are still being completed for Parts A through D. The sections will be submitted for printing and distributed in final electronic form in January 2011.

Draft HTAP 2010 Executive Summary

Draft HTAP 2010 Executive Summary is now available for comment.  This initial draft was provided to the LRTAP Working Group on Strategies and Review ( 31 August 2010) and will be discussed at the EMEP Steering Body Meeting (13 September 2010).  Please provide comments to htap2010@ecrweb.com no later than 20 September 2010.

Seeking Comments on Review Drafts of HTAP 2010

Review drafts of Parts A-C are now available on the HTAP wiki at http://htap.icg.fz-juelich.de/data/ExternalReview.  Drafts of Part D and the Executive Summary will follow in the coming weeks.  All interested experts are invited to provide comments.  To be most useful, the comments must be returned by 30 July, 2010 by email to htap2010@ecrweb.com in the form of a "marked up" PDF. Comments received after 30 July will be taken into account as time allows.

All the drafts are available in "commentable-PDF" format, which allows reviewers to enter comments directly into the document using editing and commenting tools available in the free Adobe Reader. We ask that you use these tools to provide your suggested edits and comments, which will facilitate our work in compiling and responding to the comments we receive.

The Task Force and the report authors and editors are particularly interested in your views and comments/information on:

• Additional studies and reports providing insights on the role of intercontinental transport of air pollutants. These additional studies would have to be traceable (i.e. with a reference) and publically available.
  
  
• The scientific and technical underpinning of the Findings, and Recommendations in each chapter and in the Chapter 6 summary.
  
  
• Any other observations on the draft reports.

The draft findings and recommendations will be presented for discussion at the upcoming meetings of the LRTAP WGSR (30 Aug-3 Sept) and EMEP Steering Body (13-15 Sept).  The findings and recommendations will be finalized before the end of September for submission to the LRTAP Executive Body.

Next Meeting: 14-16 June 2010, Brussels, Belgium

The next TF HTAP meeting will take place 14-16 June in Brussels. Registration and logistical information will be posted as soon as it is available. The agenda for the meeting will focus on:

1. Review and agree upon the principal messages of HTAP 2010, the TF HTAP’s assessment report describing the intercontinental transport of ozone, aerosols, mercury, and persistent organic pollutants
   
   
2. Discuss future directions for cooperation on air pollution issues at the hemispheric and global scales, in general, and the work of the TF HTAP, in particular. The exploration of future directions is being organized in cooperation with the Global Air Pollution Forum.
